Marlene Elliott always knew she wanted a career in law enforcement.
Welcome to the premiere issue of it’s MY day, a new magazine featuring the breadth and importance of the work federal public servants do for Canada and Canadians.
Today’s Public Service is Canada’s largest, most complex institution in the country. It has over 250,000 employees, with more lines of business and points of service, both nationally and internationally, than any Canadian private sector organization. Federal programs touch Canadians in almost every facet of their daily lives.
All this is to say that what we do as public servants and how we do it matters. The profiles in this first issue bring this point home. You will meet public servants from across our amazing country. You will get a sense of the enormous pride they feel in belonging to the Public Service, and the great satisfaction they take away from their work. Their stories are important, especially now as the Public Service enters a major period of renewal.
One way to do this is to generate curiosity and interest about working for the Public Service. We have a lot to boast about. As we know and as these stories show, there is a wide diversity of rewarding and stimulating occupations in the Public Service, which is an attractive drawing card to a new generation of Canadian graduates. To be sure, there are fields to ignite every imagination and passion.
Serving Canada and Canadians is a noble pursuit. As Clerk of the Privy Council and Head of the Public Service, I am pleased to celebrate the work of public servants through this magazine. It gives us a wonderful opportunity to recognize their important contributions and personal commitments to public service.

Kevin Lynch
Clerk of the Privy Council and Head
